In order to be eligible for CHIP, a child must be:
- Under 19 years of age,
- Uninsured (determined ineligible for Medicaid, and not covered through a group health plan or creditable health insurance),
- A citizen or meet immigration requirements,
- A resident of the state, and.

Generally, kids who qualify as tax dependents aren’t required to file a federal income tax return or pay taxes on their income if they earned less than a threshold amount ($12,400 in 2020.) If your daughter earned less than that, you would not count her income as part of your household income.
